Recording from concert in Bergen cathedral

Friday october 3rd, I had a concert in Bergen cathedral, to celebrate my 30th birthday. The audience mostly consisted of my friends and family.

On the concert, this programme was performed:

Johann Sebastian Bach – Toccata & Fugue, d minor
Arvo Pärt – Trivium
Louis James-Alfred Lefébure-Wély – Sortie, Eb major
Maurice Duruflé – Méditation
Franz Liszt – Prelude & Fugue, B-A-C-H

In addition, I had an encore, which was my homage to my parents who October 5th celebrated their 40th anniversary as a married couple. For this, I played the recessional from their wedding:

Johann Sebastian Bach – Prelude, Eb major

The recording from this concert is available through my SoundCloud profile:

New video on YouTube

It’s been a while since I uploaded this video to my YouTube-account, but now it’s also available through my website. This is a recording of Alexandre Guilmant’s Finale from his 5th Sonata, recorded in Bergen Cathedral, September 2013. I hope you will enjoy it.

You’ll find the video on the top of my “Videos”-page.

Concert: Organ Marathon in Arna church

This saturday, we have an organ marathon going on in Arna church.

When I first started playing the organ, my uncle was my teacher. A few years earlier, on of my cousins also received education from our uncle. So this saturday all three of us will play a 45 minute program, separated by 30 minute breaks.

Tickets are NOK 100,- for each concert, or NOK 200,- for all three concerts.

The “rounds”:

5 PM: Kristen Øgaard (for many years organist in “Church of the cross” in downtown Bergen, as well as organist in Arna church from 2007 – 2010)
6.15 PM: Hallgeir Øgaard (Organist and Musical Director of Arna church from 2012)
7.30 PM: Sigurd Melvær Øgaard (Organist in Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, Houston, as well as accompanist and organist for Bach Society Houston)

Vår Frelsers kirke, Haugesund

During the Fartein Valen Festival in September, I will play a concert in Vår Frelsers kirke (“Our Saviour’s Church”) in Haugesund. This church has a fairly new organ built by dutch organ builder Verschueren Orgelbouw which was dedicated in 2004. This organ replaced an organ built by G. F. Steinmeyer in 1954.

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750): Piece d’Orgue
Charles-Marie Widor (1844 – 1937): Adagio, from Symphonie pour Orgue op. 42 no. 5
Fartein Valen (1887 – 1952): Preludium & Fuge, op. 33 (1939)

Concert in Arna church – Gabriel Fauré: Requiem

Welcome to a great concert in Arna church this sunday evening. Alversund kammerkor (chamber choir) will perform Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem”, a well known, and very beautiful Requiem.

Alversund kammekor is based in Alversund, a small town 25 minutes from downtown Bergen. Alversund also happens to be my birth place and where I was raised, and from 2002 to 2008 I was employed as second organist in Alversund church, and got to work with Alversund kammerkor on several occations.

Odd Leif Mjøs is the conductor of Alversund kammerkor, and also is the musical director of Alversund church. He has made this choir to one of the best choirs in county of Hordaland, and during his time as conductor, they have performed several large pieces like St. Johns Passion (Bach), Messiah (Händel) and Requiem (by both Mozart, Duruflé and Fauré).

On this performance of Fauré’s Requiem, I will be playing the organ.

Complete program, with tickets information will be posted soon.
